After an Introduction which discusses the general notion of metaphysics as a science, the relation of metaphysics to the critical analysis of knowledge and metaphysics as developed by Aristotle and St. Thomas, the author turns to the questions of First Philosophy which have concerned philosophers from Parmenides to Sartre and Heidegger. In seven chapters he considers being in itself and as it is known, the transcendental, the categories of being, act and potency, essence and existence and causality. As in the other volumes of this series, the author includes a generous selection of texts from the works of St. Thomas carefully correlated with the various chapters of the work itself. These are not mere snippets, but substantial quotations drawn from the Commentary on Aristotle's Metaphysics, De ente et existentia, the Disputed Questions and the two Summas. The reader has the words of Aquinas in the best modern English versions before him. Here is St. Thomas for the thinker--unfiltered. A most valuable addition in this fourth volume is the technical vocabulary of Thomistic and scholastic terms, covering all four volumes of the Initiation. The beginner in metaphysics will find this book most valuable, for it presents clearly the basic problematics and the Thomistic solution of them. For the more profound student here is a clear, concise (but not cursory) review of the science. Thomistic metaphysics, in Father Gardeil's presentation, is not an historical curiosity but a living and lively discipline. While the aim of the work is to give a synthetic view of St. Thomas' thought, the insights of modern or contemporary philosophers is not neglected. The translator's notes offer clarification and add bibliographical information on works published since the French edition. Valuable as a class manual, indispensable as supplementary reading, this book can serve the needs of a strictly philosophical course or one designed as a preparation for theology."

Good book with not enough Images

I have the book by Canemaker: "Before the Animation Begins : The Art and Lives of Disney Inspirational Sketch Artists" and I like it very much because is very visual. I saw this book "Storytelling in Animation" and I bought one used and certainly it was not what I had imagined.
The book edited by The American Film Institute, is an anthology edited by John Canemaker. In his words this book is a monograph of the "eclectic overview of animation's potential that was presented on june 11, 1988 in los Angeles at the AFI's Second Annual Walter Lantz Conference on Animation". He acted like the Guest Curator of the Conference, serving like a moderator in some Conversations and finally he was the editor of the works of the conference into this book.

Certainly this book doesn't have a lot of images because this material was presented in Conferences, but I think that the title of the book can be missinterpreted. NOTE: My book said "Volume 2" then exist a "Volume 1" that I don't have.

This is a valuable quaint book introducing one to making stories through animation. It is a primer, and can at times be found as a little too pricey, so be careful. If you have the chance to pick this up and at a decent price then jump all over it!

Somewhat predictable but still a great story!

While parts of the story were predictable, the story still captured and enthralled me. I could not put this one done!
Katherine's sister's husband (Peter Manning) is killed in a car accident along with his mistress. Later that same night she goes into labor only 7 months pregnant - gives birth to a baby girl but unfortunately dies due to complications. Just before she dies she pleads with Katherine to take care of her baby and not the let the Mannings raise her. As soon as she can leave the hospital, Katherine takes baby Allison and moves to Texas.
One day Jason Manning, Peter's brother, shows up at her door explaining that he is there to take Allison. As is somewhat expected, they felt an instant attraction to each other and start a relationship. Jason happens to be the black sheep of the Manning family and also wants to protect Allison from his parents.
There are many miscommunications and misunderstandings along the way. As with any good romance there are also many steamy moments along the way! A few unexpected events arise and kept me reading and wanting more until the very end.

I've read all of Sandra's books and I put this right up at the top of her best. This book is only seconded by Sandra's MIRROR IMAGE. A must read for any romance reader. Jason Manning is what dreams are made of.

Go ahead, if you have nothing better to read...

I guess I fall somewhere in the middle on this one. It was okay, I liked it until the trailer scene. ...the enjoyment ended there. I love romance novels, so don't get me wrong. But even as romance novels go, this one was just a bit flat.

I have read over 20 of Sandra Browns books, and about half of them were great, half not. Usually because there was a lack of excitement, or because the characters contradicted themselves. The almost rape in this one was good. It spiced it up, made it exciting. But that's as good as it gets.

It might have been nice if they did have to actually battle it out with the grandparents, or if Katherine would have left after having found out about Jace's ex-wife and catching them in what looked like a compromising position. Her running off with the baby again would have made it exciting. Or she could have ran off when Jace left without a word for two days to go rescue his ex-wife, she should have been gone when he returned. But alas, none of that happened. Katherine just kept taking it. She was a total walking contradiction. As I said, the story is flat and predictable. The so called explosion at the end was just a stupid cop-out way to end the story. So I wouldn't break my neck to run out and buy this one. Read only if you have nothing better to do.
