10 Amazing Muslims Touched by God, by Faisal Malick

Eternally amazing!

Ten real-life experiences about faith in Allah, the Qur’an, and amazing encounters with the God of Abraham.Ten Amazing Muslims is a compilation of stories representing a vast demographic of Muslims—from Jihadists to peaceful leaders and humble Bedouins to intellectuals of various echelons of society worldwide.True stories include a man raised to be a terrorist, to a scholar seeking to know Muhammad and a woman raised as a Bedouin. Through these experiences you will gain a deeper understanding of Islam and be amazed at the personal encounters with the God of Abraham,Isaac, Ishmael, and Jacob. You will hear truths from the Qur’an, the Torah, the Zabur (the Book of Psalms), and the Injil (the Gospel)—the words of Muhammad, Moses, Jesus, and the ancient prophets of God.In their own words, ten amazing Muslims tell their stories about how God chose to reveal Himself to them in extraordinarily supernatural ways. Most of these men and women are devout Muslims, while others are scholars of the Qur’an and Hadith—some are just ordinary Muslims searching for answers from God.

Sadly NO stars is not allowed "Cover to Cover, Fraud, False Claims, and Plain Lies"
By Ayman Abouelwafa
I received a free copy of this book in my mail. Then I wondered who will send me a free book and why? I read the book with an open mind but quickly came to conclude the facts:

A) Facts or Lies? How can a man who was born to a religion and presumably knows it well enough through 4 hours of religious education/day, every day throughout his childhood yet he represents many false statements as facts about that religion. Let me cite one of many: Page 45 from the story about himself "Muslims don't have an assurance of heaven, but there is assurance of hell if they even think Jesus is the Son of God". Yes, there assurance of heaven in Islam if one only says and believed that there is no God but Allah the all mighty and Mohammed is his last messenger" Islam never punishes, let alone promise hell to just a thought. I guess the author doesn't know the difference between believes and thoughts yet he considers himself a believer. Those are Lies NOT Facts.

B) Cite your sources: One more, Page 26 of Kamal Saleem's story, the author said "Muslims can do anything for the sake of Islam. small sins or big sins, it doesn't matter" Really...!! where was that principle found in Islam. please... can you cite where in Quran or any other reliable Islamic source? once again, no cited sources for the claims, because they are plain Lies.

C) History facts or Fictions? The story about Khalida Page 66 after she was taken by the Bedouins "We traveled in caravan from Lebanon to Syria, From Egypt to Saudi and back again" by camels...!!. This was after 1967?? WOW, guess what, I'm an Egyptian who was born well before 1967 and never known that Bedouins can/did travel across the middle east countries (as she said, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Saudi...) without a visa let alone by camels. I lived 30 years of my life close to the Palestinian borders. Are we in the 1800s? come on now, at least do some homework and make-up believable stories that one can buy. respect the reader's intellect a bit.
Sloppy Fictions from someone who didn't bother to re-read what he wrote.

to be honest, I could not find a page (laterally a single page) in this book that doesn't contain a lie or a fiction.

Conceptually, why one have to speak ill of Islam if you like something else that is that good and fulfilling. if so, one would just go wherever he/she choses in peace. It is all about money or fame or both. What a way to make a living with lies. There are better honest ways to make a buck; this is not one of them. This is so cheap.

I strongly would NOT recommend this book and would discredit the author from his claims about any knowledge about both wonderful religions Islam and true Christianity.
the book is not worth the ink on its pages or the postage stamp.

Cover to Cover Lies...!!!

MANIPULATIVE AND SHOWS ISLAM IN A FALSE LIGHT
By Kindle Customer
First thing I want to do is request everyone, please DON'T read this book if you are really interested in learning about Islam and Muslims. They use false and out of context information about Muslims to try to influence people towards Jesus and the Bible. I would have respected them much more if they just came outright and said the message they wanted to instead of maligning Islam to subtly lay out their message. It's disgusting mainly because they attack Islam while pretending to be Muslims. I got this book for free in my mail just like I am sure a lot of others received it too in an effort to try to turn them away from Islam. Unfortunately they miscalculated, because most of us are highly educated, independent, and critical thinkers who can make our own judgements. All I had to do was read who it was published by- the "Lockman foundation" which publishes Bibles- and I can reach my own conclusions. I wrote this review for all the naive and innocent people out there who believe anything if its published. Save yourself some time and don't read this. I wish amazon would take this book off of their site because Amazon's level of excellence doesn't befit it to have these kinds of books for free on their site. I know I probably look like I'm overreacting but I was seriously upset. I have read Christian spiritual books with interest and have nothing against them; why couldn't this author just admit he was trying to sway people towards Christianity instead of using the sneaky way of subtly slandering Muslims? I would have respected him more that way.

Sad Lies
By Aminah
I can't imagine what sort of ignorant Muslim would think the stories in this book are true. For one thing, the "Muslims" who are the main characters of these stories do not know their religion. The same common misconceptions about Islam are repeated through the stories. For the second thing, there are so many obvious plot holes, logical mistakes and contradictions in the stories themselves that they can't be true. Lastly, even if these stories are entirely true and the logical problems are just recording accidents or omissions, most Muslims - especially such "devout" ones as the characters claim - would think they were being deceived by jinn upon receiving such visions. Even the Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) thought he was being deceived at first by the angel Jibrail.

Here are just a couple of the misconceptions:

72 Virgins: The book cites this oft-mocked idea of a martyr receiving seventy-two virgins in paradise. This number is something that was made up by a scholar. Yes, there are considered to be beautiful and pure inhabitants of paradise - the houri - but aside from these being both female and male there is no number of them promised to belong to anyone in either the Qur'an or the hadith.

The Balance of Deeds: This book writes of the Day of Judgment as if it is a blank reckoning of good deeds versus bad deeds and God just weighs and assigns either paradise or hell. This is not true; as any Muslim knows, no one will be able to attain paradise off their good deeds alone. It's only God's mercy that forgives us. If we spent our entire life praying it would not be enough to "earn" paradise. However, God doesn't need to sacrifice some other being in order to be able to forgive us if He choses to do so. God is limitless.

Martyr Paradise: This book acts as if martyrs are secure in knowing they will go to paradise and as long as they die as martyrs they can do all sorts of horrible things. This is misconceived for two reasons: nobody knows how they will die, they could die in the process of doing horrible things, and Muslims - especially devout Muslims - are very aware of this. God is the one who writes the fate of how people will die. The second reason is that nobody should feel secure in knowing they will have paradise, even martyrs. There is a hadith that says one of the sort of people of hell will be a shaheed, an Islamic martyr, one who fought more for glory among the people than for God. Consider the purity of intention that being a martyr requires.

Taqqiyah: This book writes of the concept of taqqiyah in a truly Islamophobic way. Many Islamophobes - and some Shi'a, though this is less prevalent and the "Muslim" character who considered taqqiyah this way was supposedly a Sunni (it's so in-authentic), see taqqiyah as a free edict to lie to non-believers about the religion. This, logically, is already a very silly idea. What, is there some magic mental switch that happens once someone becomes a Muslim and learns all the "truth" behind the "taqqiyah lies" and is okay with them and goes on telling them to others? It doesn't make sense. Taqqiyah is actually the permission to lie under duress, such as torture. For instance, if someone is having their fingers cut off and the torturer keeps yelling at them to denounce God, they are allowed to say whatever the torturer wants and God will forgive them.

Apostasy: This book writes that if someone leaves the religion, they are sentenced to death. This is not how it works. The majority of scholars conclude that the hadith about this - there is no Qur'anic edict, in fact, the Qur'an simply calls to pray for apostates - but the hadith about this was talking about being a traitor, not about being an apostate. The Muslims were fighting a war at this time and it was a normal thing to do, to kill people who betrayed a cause during that century. So there are two levels - a person can leave the religion peacefully, or a person can leave the religion and fight against it. The first case is just an apostate, the second case is a traitor.

Miracles: This book acts as if Muslims do not believe in miracles and as if Muhammed (peace be upon him) received no miracles from God. This is untrue. Muslims believe that God gave miracles to each prophet through the centuries according to what sort of art was most admired in their culture. In the time of Moses (peace be upon him), people admired magic and magicians - so Moses (peace be upon him) was given miracles of magic to trump all of the magicians of that time to the extent that they knew it couldn't just be magic, it was God. In the time of Jesus (peace be upon him), people admired healing and doctors, so Jesus (peace be upon him) was given miracles of healing to trump all knowledge of healing at that time to the extent that they knew it couldn't just be healing, it was God. In the time of Muhammed (peace be upon him), people admired poetry and poets, so Muhammed (peace be upon him) was given poetry to the extent that they knew it couldn't be just poetry, it was God. First, Muhammed was an illiterate. Secondly, according to the rules of Arabic poetry, the Qur'an is a vastly perfect piece of work whose intricate organization schemes and subtleties are still being discovered to this day. Thirdly, the content of the Qur'an is miraculous - it's survived in its original words, preserved by God, for 1400 years. There are many stories of people opening the Qur'an and feeling as if the words they found right there on the page were addressing them personally in a deep way, and then converting. The Qur'an is the miracle of Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him). He was also given many small miracles, such as being able to feed a whole army of ditch diggers with one small meal until they were all full, and so on. The point is that Muslims do believe in miracles and somehow this book has the misconception that they do not.

War on Unbelievers: This book writes that Muslims believe they have the right and the duty to "usher in war" in order to take over the world. The Qur'an clearly orders that "God does not love the starter of wars" and "fight those who fight against you, but if they desist, leave them alone". Muslims fight in self-defense, not to take over the world and kill all non-believers. Even radical Muslims in war-torn places believe they are fighting in self-defense. It's such a horrible misconception in this book that really robs it of any shred of authenticity.

Animal Cruelty: There is a character in this book who 'practiced killing cats and dogs' in order to get better at killing non-believers. It's such an emotional touch to just tack on there. This is very, very wrong. Islam is very strict about cruelty to animals. There is a hadith about a woman who kept a cat and let the cat starve, and it is said she would enter hellfire for that one act. There is another hadith about a man who gave water to a dog he found stuck in a pit, and it is said he would enter paradise for that one act. Senseless cruelty to animals is very much not an Islamic trait, and since these two hadith are fairly well known, there is no way that a devout Muslim would think that killing cats and dogs would be okay.

Anyways, I guess I went over a 'couple'. Anyways, there are so many misconceptions propagated by this book that it is clearly not written by a real Muslim but written by Islamophobes. Please research actual Islam before making judgments.

The fake "Muslims" within these pages don't even logically work through the false idea of the Trinity in their conversion process. It is a terribly conceived piece of propaganda and I am very sad for the authors, who have first committed a crime against God and against humanity with all these lies, and who second are foolish enough to think others will fall for this sad attempt. I am even sadder if there is anyone who's faith is shaken by this book. However, I am confident in God to defend Himself and His religion in the minds of the people. "Truth stands clear from error."

Field Guide to the Palms of the Americas (Princeton Paperbacks), by Andrew Henderson, Gloria Galeano, Rodrigo Bernal

This user-friendly and authoritative book will serve scientists, growers, and sightseers as a guide to the 67 genera and 550 species of naturally occurring palms found in the Americas. Its purpose is to give an introduction to the diversity of palms and allow almost anyone to identify a palm from this part of the world. Providing scientifically accurate descriptions and a rich supply of illustrations, including color photos taken in the wild of over 256 species, this guide is extraordinary in its coverage of the plant that has become for many people the symbol of the tropical landscape.

Palms are not only aesthetically pleasing, but they also make up an economically and ecologically important family of plants. In industry, for example, the coconut, oil palm, and date palm have a wide and varied use. In the lowland rain forest, palms are usually one of the most abundant and diverse families of plants. Field Guide to the Palms of the Americas will appeal to professional scientists or students working in the tropics-including agronomists, anthropologists, ecologists, entomologists, natural historians, and zoologists-as well as to amateur and professional growers of palms, to "eco-tourists" who visit tropical regions, and to inhabitants of these regions who are interested in the native flora.

From Library Journal
Palms are an important plant family. Ornamentally, they symbolize a tropical landscape to most of us; economically, they provide important products to millions of people in both subsistence and modern commercial economies. Although both of these books provide a wealth of information on palms, they differ in coverage. Field Guide to the Palms of the Americas takes a botanical approach to help readers identify palms naturally occurring in the Americas. A brief introduction and a key to the genera are followed by descriptions of 67 individual species, including identification, characteristics, habitat, and interesting notes. A separate section of 64 color plates, a distribution map for each species, checklists, and a detailed bibliography and index are also offered. Species descriptions are written by taxonomists but are reasonably comprehensible and interesting to the amateur; unfortunately, there is no glossary to explain technical terms. Palms Throughout the World, an expansion of Jones's popular Palms in Australia (1984), takes a horticultural approach. Its descriptions of 800 species in 123 genera include cultivation and propagation information as well as descriptions, and its 350 color photographs are conveniently located next to the species they illustrate. The long introductory section includes information on the structure, biology, and economic uses of palms as well as their disease and cultivation requirements. A glossary is provided. Both works would be useful in academic horticultural libraries. Field Guide to the Palms of the Americas is the only comprehensive field guide for its area, although Natalie Uhl and John Dransfield's definitive Genera Palmarum (Allen Pr., 1987) provides more detailed botanical information. Palms of the World is a more attractive book and would have greater appeal to general readers.?Marit MacArthur, Auraria Lib., Denver, Col.
Copyright 1995 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Scientific American
The reason why this should become a standard reference, as well as a field guide, is that the species concepts are broad and allow for the considerable variation that palms exhibit in the field. Highly recommended.

From The New Yorker
This excellently produced guide is a model of its kind, not only in providing keys and description for field taxonomists, but also in containing a wealth of information on the ecology, distribution, and economic uses of this important group of tropical and subtropical plants.

A must have!
By A Customer
This is probably the most useful book for anyone involved in plant identification, such as Forest Engineers, specially those working in tropical America, where one often encounters many kinds of palms in the field, but until now it was not easy to identify them, and palms are mostly overlooked because they have the reputation of being difficult to identify. This book changes it all, and it's definitely a must-have.

a must have

if you're interested in neotropical palms, you ought to buy this excellent guide. all three authors are considered to be highly esteemed authorities who know their stuff very well. the description said it had approximately 380 pages, but together with all the appendices and photo pages, the total number of pages gets to 500.

The American palm compendium
By Christopher J. Sharpe
Palms are a very conspicuous feature of the tropical landscape, whether in the wilds of Central and South America or in the suburban environments further north. They are also important economically (usually as fruit crops) and culturally (having uses as diverse as roofing, as material for weaving hammocks as fodder for edible beetle larvae!). Since everyone knows what a palm is, yet most non-specialists cannot get much beyond that, this guide to their identification should fill a niche.

This is a field guide to the 550 species of palm occurring naturally in the American tropics. The taxonomic treatment seems to this non-specialist to be eminently sensible and many knotty systematic probems appear to have been carefully resolved. A 40 page appendix of accepted names helps clarify what has happened to some of the older synonyms, hybrid names and such.

The authors have crammed an awful lot of new and useful information into the three-hundred and fifty odd pages. A main key permits identification to genera with further keys sprinkled throughout the body of the book. There are handy introductions to families and genera. The text is succinct and well oriented towards field identification while the 236 photographs at the back allow the user to quickly narrow down the search by visual means. Maps are provided for every species - this must have been a huge task! - and country checklists provide a further tool for homing in on the plant in question.

In resume, this is a master work which will be seen in the field for decades to come. It should be high on the list of any tropical landscape gardener, horticulturalist, anthropologist, botanist or naturalist.

The further adventures of Macro & Cato during the time of Emperor Claudius
By H. S. Wedekind
This, the 8th novel in the series, begins with the destruction of a Roman cohort by the Parthians, sworn enemies of Rome and a threat to its eastern province Syria. Centurions Macro and Cato are sent by the scheming "real power behind the throne of Emperor Claudius" Narcissus to spy on one of Rome's more ambitious generals, Cassius Longinus, Governor of Syria.

The other reviewers here have written enough about this novel to give anyone curious about it an idea of its plot. I won't add to what has already been said. Suffice it to say, this is another good read about the adventures, battles, and friendship of Roman soldiers Macro and Cato. I admit that I gave this book in the series only 4 stars instead of 5 because I think it wasn't as exciting or as full of the riveting " will they be saved in the nick of time" desperation that was so well-written by Simon Scarrow in the other books...but that's just my opinion. If you are looking for a fast paced book to take along with you to the beach on a summer's day, you can't go wrong with this. I recommend it highly. Newcomers to the "Eagle" series should first read UNDER THE EAGLE...the book that started it all. Enjoy!

Macro and Cato at Their Best
By J. Chippindale
Simon Scarrow is a teacher at a Sixth Form College. He has run a Roman History programme that takes parties of students to a number of sites and museums across Britain and I assume that while doing this he gleans lots of useful information for his books on the Roman Centurions Macro and Cato.

This is the eighth book in a series started seven years ago and Cato the young boy who left the confines of the Palace in Rome and entered the army as an Optio (second in command to a Centurion) has now matured into a man, moulded in the image of his friend and mentor Macro. Both men are battle hardened Centurions, though Macro has a dozen years on Cato. The have fought together in Britain and other parts of the Roman Empire.

Macro and Cato become embroiled in the fight to stabilise what is to all intents and purposes a neutral
Kingdom, Palmyra. As usual wherever the pair go trouble follows close behind and it is not long before the pair of them are engaged in trying to stop the forces of one of Rome's long standing enemies, Parthia, who having heard of Rome's presence in Palmyra decide it will be in their own best interest if they also send a force into the kingdom.

Macro and Cato are old friends to the readers of Simon Scarrow's books and their adventures are interesting and exciting, particularly for those interested in all things Roman and in particular the workings and make-up of the Roman Legions.

Desert Warfare against Parthians
By Alex Tang
{review contains spoilers}

Fresh after their involvement with the Jews in the previous book, Roman soldiers Macro and Cato were involved in a brand new military adventure, this time in the kingdom of Palmyra, a desert state between Roman occupied Syria and the Parthian empire. The Roman Emperor wanted Palmyra as a buffer between them and the Parthians. Thus when a civil war erupted in Palmyra with the king besieged in his oasis fortress, the Roman governor of Syria were obligated to send soldiers to help. An advance detachment of the Tenth Legion led by Macro, and auxiliaries Second Illyrian cohort led by Cato, who was acting Prefect, were despatched to help the besieged king while the main army were to follow later.

In true, Scallow style, the story is fast moving with enough details about Roman military life to be interesting. The heavily armoured legionnaires and the lighter armoured auxiliaries were involved with fast marches, being besieged in a fortress and desert warfare against the Parthians. It is interesting to note that the Roman's technique of phalanx was not so effective against the Parthians who rode horses and were expert archers. The slower moving Romans were like sitting ducks. Apparently this unequal warfare led to the historical military loss of armies of General Crassus and later of Mark Anthony when they fought against the Parthians, many years before the time of this novel. The Roman legions have not learnt from their defeat.

In terms of character development, Cato fell in love with the ambassador's daughter and was pledged to marry when they return to Rome. Another good book for easy reading on military warfare and fighting men.

If you are like me, you are a secret tools geek and get a little eye tracker envy every time you wander through a particularly well-equipped lab. THE best book about eye tracking
By Stephen Krug
You’re probably checking this book out because you either (a) do eye tracking, or (b) are thinking of doing eye tracking, or (c) are just generally curious about eye tracking.

Whichever one it is, take my word for it: You ought to read this book.

I’ve always been curious about eye tracking and how it can inform user experience design decisions. (In fact, my book Don’t Make Me Think was originally supposed to be based in part on some eye tracking, but it turned out to be too hard to do at the time.) I've always tried to read everything that’s available about eye tracking—particularly about eye tracking and usability.

Unfortunately, there hasn’t been a whole lot, since much of the interesting work is very proprietary. And most of what’s available hasn’t been very illuminating or inspiring.

Which is why it’s so fortunate that Aga decided to write this book, and share her deep, practical knowledge so freely. Plus, she writes really well.

I liked it so much, I offered to write the foreword, and I *hate* writing forewords.

Check it out.

An honest analysis of the strengths and limitations of eye tracking as research methodology!
By James Henry McKeen
This book does a great job of introducing complex questions in an accessible format. Perhaps none more important than: will eye tracking help me answer my research questions for this project? What's more, assuming that it can, what presentations and metrics are of the most value for the research focus? The author asks that we set aside our excitement and evaluate eye tracking as we would any data collection tool.

I am very grateful for all of the examples included in the book from actual research projects. The concrete presentations really helped me appreciate the flexibility and attention required to design eye tracking research which attempts to control for confounding variables (particularly evident in Chapter 5).

Great introductory text for eye tracking in UX
By BT
This book is aimed at a professional audience that may be planning to use eye tracking in user experience evaluations. The book covers a fair amount of material about the human eye & what tracking it's movements can and cannot tell us about human attention. It is well laid out across engaging chapters that gradually step through the process of learning about what eye tracking is, how to apply it to UX research and finally data analysis. The book includes several real world examples that are quite useful for illustrating key points in the text. The book is not aimed at an academic audience and does not give a lot of space for discussing the biology & control of the eye, or how eye tracking is used in modern psychology and neuroscience to evaluate visual attention. However, the book has many great references if one needs more detailed info on the finer points of scientific practice. It is a great primer on the ins & outs of general practice on using a tracker and many great tips on common problems to avoid when designing experiments and helpful text on basics of experiment design and data analysis in UX research.
