About the Author
The author graduated with honors from Sweet Briar College near Lynchburg, VA. After graduating in 1989, she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army, Corps of Engineers. She served in various posts throughout Germany during her tour of duty there, mainly as a platoon leader and a construction officer. Her experiences as a basic training company commander in Ft Leonard Wood, MO are the inspiration for this book. She currently resides near Ft Polk, LA with her husband and two children.

THE MORE INFO YOU GET, THE BETTER YOU FEEL

...and I definitely thought that this book was a good use of money and time. Most IET soldiers have trouble with the physical fitness test and this book helps you focus on what you need to do so that when you get there, passing the PT test is the one big thing that you won't need to worry about. You'll have so much else to worry about that you will be grateful that you can get this one thing off your plate. The plain fact is that BCT doesn't give the Army enough time to get most recruits in shape, so showing up with your push-ups, sit-ups, and 2 mile run at the right level is important. Use in conjunction with other resources. Your recruiter has an interest in seeing you graduate and he/she can also help you.

The training changes so rapidly I am not sure how relevant this kind of book is but it definitely points out some areas to focus on. If you know someone that has gone through basic they could probably tell you the same thing in an hour. Either way, if your going, start running and start your memorization.

Thiebes roadmaps the pitfalls to avoid, and how to overcome bumps in the road. It's a how-to book, not pleasure reading, nor does it dwelve deeply into the boot camp experience. If you're looking for that type of read, look elsewhere.

I would love to visit Hog's Hollow, and I would love to have Penny, Tally, Blake, and Marcus as friends. They know how to make everyday life in their small town creative, cool, and messy enough to be fun. I mean, who wouldn't want to build a to-scale model of the solar system in their back yard, or eat a (literally) blue meal cooked by an aunt named Poppy, or plan a giant pudding plunge? Before I read this book I read The Cupcake Queen, and it was AMAZING! I definitely recommend reading The Cupcake Queen before starting Frosted Kisses. I say this because Frosted Kisses is basically a continuation of the story. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends! FYI: I read this book in LESS than 2 days!! IT WAS A REALLY AWESOME BOOK!!

Eye-Opening Book: Must Read!

After reading this book, I am slowing learning how systems operate in their own capacity. McLaren helped us to learn how systems operate to continue to have someone operate in the faces of oppression and how each facet of oppression allows them to remain in their allocated systems. He also addresses tracking within the schools and how many school systems attempt to "de-track" only to remain a tracking school under another capacity such as not graded test and certain types of test.. When reading about the faces of oppression, I was enraged to learn how the school systems are playing an important role in helping minorities to continue to hit the glass ceiling that has been placed upon them. If you are a teacher or someone in education, I would definitely read this book because it will allow you to learn about different systems are in place for certain ethnic groups and certain populations. Forewarning, this book is not bashing any particular race but it will make you open your eyes about the injustices that minority groups receive when placed into an education system that was not built to help minorities grow. McLaren challenges his readers to expand their knowledge concerning environmental language because most children in these school systems are taught a different language skill that will differ from their environment in their setting.
