A great read for both boys and girls

This is a hilarious and inventive boy orientated read. I never had a brother so I can't speak from experience but Danny's habit of picking random things up and trying to use them to make something seems accurate for boys of his age. Fiddling and inventing lead to some scenes which filled me with astonishment – I felt so sorry for his mother who had to put up with her husband encouraging Danny on.

I liked the way that Danny worked to create a moving vehicle for the school contest, even if the teachers didn't have much sense when they selected the course which had a fair few scary parts that health and safety would certainly not like. I was either laughing or gasping in terror at what would happen next. A very minor point which didn't detract from the story was that there didn't seem to be chapters, which puzzled me a bit as chapters provide easy stopping points (or not). That aside, it's definitely a book to brighten your day with.

The author of this book, Brian Baker, was a 'born again' fundamentalist Christian for seventeen years. For ten of those years he was the founding pastor of one of Australia's largest churches (1979-89). The result of Brian's search for evidence caused a personal transformation from believer to realist, rationalist, skeptic and atheist. He published his first book - From Faith to Reason - in 2009 which contains the reasons why he no longer believes in the existence of God, angels, demons, the devil, heaven, hell or an afterlife. In this book - Nonsense from the Bible - Brian uses the Bible texts to demonstrate their inaccuracies, inconsistencies, contradictions and fantasies. He deals with major issues which are widely believed and accepted as factual events such as the Creation story, the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus and the prophecies concerning Jesus. Chapters are also devoted to the question of the second coming of Jesus and Christian Family values. Brian also totally invalidates the so-called 'power of prayer' and the claims that God heals the sick. This would be a 'hard read' for many Christians who totally believe that the Bible is literally 'The Word of God' and accept it as absolute truth. Brian also believed that for all those years but over a period of time and investigation by seeking evidence other than the Bible he was able to accept that he had been deceived and deluded - or as he now says, 'Once I was blind - but now I see!' This is an 'easy' read for those who may question their own faith as it provides some convincing information concerning the validity of the Bible.

About the Author

BiographyBrian Baker was born in England and during the 1960s he owned and operated a successful chain of Record Stores. In 1972 the family moved to New Zealand where they held a Christian Youth Club on their beautiful ocean front property. Brian and his wife also began working with a local Christian Pastor and assisted him in the work of the ministry. In 1978 Brian again moved his family, this time to USA where he and his wife and eldest son attended Rhema Bible Training Centre in Tulsa Oklahoma. After graduation in 1979 the family finally moved to Perth Western Australia where they founded a new church. From small beginnings their ministry grew during the following years to become one of the largest church congregations in Australia with an attendance of over 2500. Brian travelled overseas to many�countries�and across Australia speaking at large and small churches.

In 1989 Brian and his wife resigned as Pastors from the ministry when their marriage finally failed. Brian handed the church and ministry over to his eldest son, then, aged 29. The following years were difficult and extremely challenging for Brian as he adjusted to life after the ministry. It was also during those years that he was able to seriously question and investigate the evidence to support his beliefs. Over a period of time he finally came to the conclusion that he could no longer believe in the existence of God or the validity of the Bible. Brian emerged from this experience finally as a realist, rationalist, skeptic and atheist.�

Brian is now retired and spends most of his time writing. His first book - 'From Faith to Reason' first published in 2009 has now been�updated�and re-edited and was published in September 2011. His second book - 'Rest in Peace & LIVE! - Personal Peace without God' was published in March 2012. Brian's latest book is - Nonsense From The Bible - published in August 2012. All his books are available in both eBook/Kindle format and Paperback.�

Great for beginning doubters from an enlightened former pastor

This is a good introduction to biblical criticism and a quick and easy read for doubting pew potatoes written by a former celebrated pastor who has examined the evidence after leaving the pulpit. As one who has read much on the subject since retirement, my only minor quibble is that I wish the author had briefly mentioned some of the midrashic elements in the Gospels wherein their authors appear to have borrowed from the Old Testament when presenting some of the alleged events of an earthly Jesus. I also thought there could have been more emphasis on the fact that the Gospel writers were clearly writing long after the Old Testament "prophesies" so it is easy to claim something is prophecy by manufacturing events to appear they were predicted in the past - though the author does do a nice job discussing why popular prophesies were not really predicting what many fundamentalists claim. Despite my more advanced reading on the subject, I nonetheless found this an enjoyable read. Since I am now blind, I appreciate this is available on Kindle because I use the Amazon Kindle text-to-speech app for the blind to hear books read to me now. Anyway, this serves as a fairly good primer and is recommended for newbies to critical biblical study and those interested in hearing from a former pastor.

Because I have been lied to all my life! I was raised as a strict Jehovah's witness and everything I believed was based on stories from the bible that were were never proven to be true! Do you know how many JWs died not accepting blood transfusions? All because of some silly book written by men!

Easy to read and understand

This is a good follow up to Brian's previous book 'From Faith To Reason'. Brian presents his case of nonsense from the bible in a clear yet light hearted way. You might be surprised or even be angry at Brian for saying the bible is filled with nonsense but the evidence is right there for all to see.

I enjoyed the many examples given by him. He makes it easy for the reader by underlining the actual verses in question while offering them in full context. Readers can read the actual bible passages in this book without referring to the bible. This book is by no means exhaustive. Nevertheless, it is a very enjoyable read.

The text does an excellent job of describing general anatomical and physiological reasoning behind commonly used evaluation and treatment techniques, as well as describing these techniques in detail. The illustrations and descriptions are good, so that if you are not practiced at these techniques you will be able to clearly see the proper postioning that is required. I would recommend this text for anyone who wants to update their clincal skills or for new Physical Therapists that want to learn more about this aspect of Physical Therapy.

GOOD INITIAL TEXTBOOK ON BANK MANAGEMENT

This book is a good example of what a textbook should be like. It explains the topic of bank management with competence, pointing out all the major issues without going too deep (and boring the beginner). After reading the first few chapters, the interested reader feels knowledgeable enough to intelligently discuss the topic.

The book is well segmented, with an initial explanation of bank financial statements and the main risks and opportunities associated with bank management. These chapters empower the beginner with confidence of understanding exactly how a bank makes money. Bank management seems like a very complex topic, something outside the reach of normal people; it is not true, anyone with a decent volume of training could perform the basic management activities of a bank.

I highly recommend this book for anyone working at a bank in order to understand the business, its risks and the main drivers of performance. If you are considering bank entrepreneurship, this is a must. There is a chapter that demonstrates the initial processes of bank management in a very simple way, which is interesting and encouraging to someone following down that pathway.

Want to know about banking ?

The essentials of banking are clearly explained in this book.Topics such as the management of bank capital, asset/liability management,international banking and bank mergers and acquisitions are explained with detail and clarity. Though this book doesn't deal with internet banking it helps you understand the underlying nature of every bank. I specially like the chapter where the authors explain the profitability of banks and how the banking business measures it.

The Varo Edition contained unusual annotations by a strange man, Carlos Allende, who claimed to have witnessed the Philadelphia Experiment, and to have been tutored by Albert Einstein. Allende openly suspected Jessup of involvement in the experiment, leading to interesting interchanges, moves, and countermoves.

In these pages, Barker analyzes such correspondences, and deftly navigates the sticky terrain of Jessup's mysterious rise and fall, while raising doubts about the official story. Did Jessup really kill himself, or was it "self-murder?" Or, did Jessup kill his attacker and steal his identity? And was that attacker the real Carlos Allende?

This special 2014 edition features a fascinating introduction by the late, eminent ufologist, Eugenia Macer-Story, as well as the original introductions to the 1963, 1967, and 1973 editions. A MUST READ for anyone interested in early ufology and The Philadelphia Experiment.

What an amazing introduction to the sad death of one of the early pioneers of ufology. This book in no way claims to answer what exactly was the cause of Dr. Jessup's death. It touches upon The Philadelphia Experiment, Carlos Allende, and UFO'S and the moon (which today is only beginning to be researched in full). This book was an introduction for me in regards to Dr. Jessup and all the great books he wrote. All of which I have since tracked down, read and been amazed by. It further spurred me on to investigate his death and The Philadelphia Experiment. I had heard of The Philadelphia Experiment before reading this book, but never truly investigated the matter beyond watching the movie. Dr. Jessup through his research into UFOs had many ideas that would later be popularized by others such as Erich von Daniken. This book along with The Jessup Dimension by Anna Genzlinger, Hoax by P.J. Dowers (if you can find it) and The Philadelphia Experiment by Charles Berlitz are all great readings in regards to Dr. M. K. Jessup. This IS an amazing and interesting but sad event. Was Dr. Jessup murdered or did he commit suicide? We may never know the truth, but I am thankful for Dr. Jessup's writings and the world he opened for me. Many of his ideas are only today being proven. The copy I speak of is an earlier edition. This newer edition is even better because it contains supplemental information not available before.

"Most people who knew Dr. Jessup refused to believe that he had committed suicide, a most natural reaction in that the professor had, in his contacts with them, given no indications of depression or of having troubles": so declares Gray Barker in the introduction to his third book.

Two short articles by Jessup are included: UFOs and the Moon (later expanded in his book The Expanding Case for the UFO) and Motive Power of the UFO. A small amount of correspondence to Barker and Meade Layne of the BSRF is included, in which Jessup reveals his interest in the reported mediumship of Mark Probert and his reported spirit contacts.

Barker is indebted to Riley Crabb from the Borderland Sciences Research Foundation for the preface to the Annotated Edition of Jessup's The Case for the UFO, which is reprinted in this book. Barker states that the Navy gave one of 25 copies of the Varo edition to Jessup and Jessup gave his copy to Crabb. The Allende letters are also included. Barker states that Carlos Allende had been living with an elderly couple in a farmhouse. Someone had gone to visit Allende there, but the place had been stripped of all furniture and was deserted. Barker: "If the Allende Letters had been authentic in that they contained solid information, it seems that those who 'knew too much' were soon disposed of. Did Jessup also 'know too much'???????????"

It is a short book and unfortunately there is nothing on the opinions of those who knew Jessup. Barker states that Ivan Sanderson remained tight-lipped on the matter. Instead, space is taken up with reports of a seance to contact the spirit of Jessup. Barker later published a more interesting follow-up, The Jessup Dimension.

A good analysis of the contradictions surrounding the death of Dr. Jessup. I doubt we will ever know the truth, but this book provides both sides of the controversy; whether it was suicide or foul play. The book also gets into other aspects of the Jessup legacy such as UFO's and the Philadelphia experiment. An interesting read but not the final analysis.
