Scott Grinnell is an associate professor of physics at Northland College, where he has taught since 2002. Dr. Grinnell enjoys leading students through installations of renewable energy systems and organizing worldwide travel to study sustainable communities and green building practices. Since 1997 he has taught courses in mathematics, engineering, physics, meteorology, renewable energy, and sustainable design. He earned a bachelor's degree in physics from California Polytechnic State University and received his doctorate in geophysics from the University of Washington.

If you want to feel, if you want connection, if you want to heal...this is a must read.

Sometimes I wish there was another star, a different color perhaps, that would let you express how beyond amazing something is. That it is in a class of it's own.

This book. Her writing. Neon Soul speaks to where I am, where I've been, where I hope to someday be. I felt movement, real flowing movement. I yelled out loud in triumph. I teared and sat somber in self-reflection and remembrance. I read some out loud, in different tones and different meters. I was encouraged and felt at peace. I had to take cleansing breaths between pages so that I could honor each poem, each piece of prose. I was only a quarter of the way through when I got back on Amazon and sent a copy to a close friend, wanting her to feel what I kept feeling. I emerged as though on a soul level, I know Alex Elle and she knows me...a deep, spiritual human connection. I felt as though on some level or plane, she is in my tribe.

This one is worth owning, feeling the book beneath your fingertips. This not a book you'll read through once, enjoy and be done with. This one will sit on your bedside table and you'll keep coming back for more, to feel again, to breathe again, to move again.

The first time I heard anything by Alex Elle, it was on an episode of First (an amazing series that you should go watch on YouTube right now). I was immediately obsessed; I downloaded her books to my phone and tweeted screenshots from them without abandon for months. Alex explains me in a way I have never experienced before in a stranger, lending words to my endless feelings of self-doubt and my longing for love--love she has helped me to find in myself. Her passion for self care shines through every page of this book. The poems fluctuate perfectly between lengths, but my personal favorite format of Alex's has always been the succinct -- her shortest poems showcase her incredible talent at saying everything in so few words. I strongly encourage anyone who is in a point of self-reflection, who is recovering or has recovered from trauma or loss, who loves poetry, or who cares to give gratitude and meaning to life's tiniest moments to purchase this book and support this incredible woman.

Neon Soul has so many lessons to teach in its pages. Alexandra Elle spills her heart, wisdom, and her genuine neon soul into every word, which makes every poem, every piece, every word speak volumes. Even when I just open the book to a random page a re-read a poem, I find myself stopping, soaking it in, and learning what I can. As an avid promoter of self-care and self-love, Alexandra Elle is the perfect person to be writing about love, learning, evolution, and appreciation. Neon Soul is a beautiful collection, and I highly recommend it.

About the Author
Laura Overdeck is the author of Bedtime Math: A Fun Excuse To Stay Up Late, Bedtime Math: This Time It's Personal, and Bedtime Math: The Truth Comes Out. Laura knows a thing or two about numbers. As a kid, she sat and memorized perfect squares for fun, before it was cool. And as a mom, she (along with her husband, John) decided to give their three children math problems alongside bedtime stories, and soon Bedtime Math was born. It has since grown into a nationwide movement to make math cool and to get kids fired up about numbers, sparking Bedtime Math's new after-school math club, Crazy 8s. Laura holds a BA in astrophysics from Princeton University and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business. Much better text, but 1st-2nd grade gap in difficulty

We have all three Bedtime Math books, and my kids love all of them. I find this one by far the most fun to read since each spread actually has interesting information that answers a question or debunks a myth. The nonfiction mini-essays are informative and entertaining. My main complaint with the first two books was the little essays really said nothing (like two paragraphs about how ketchup is red and would make a mess if you squirted it on someone or whatever). Much improvement on that front!

My only criticism of this book is that there seems to be too great a spread between the first two levels of math problems and the second two. I have a four-year-old and a 7-year-old second grader, and my four-year-old can answer the "wee ones" and "little kids" questions, which are too easy for my second grader, but the "big kids" questions seem to be at an upper elementary level (3rd-5th grade maybe) and often involve multiplication, division, or other skills my 2nd grader hasn't learned yet, so there seems to be a 1st-2nd grade gap in the math problems.

Early sketches - an obligatory reading for any Forsterian scholar

This book was printed in no more than 1000 copies but that is exactly as many potential buyers there were on the market when it first (and probably last) appeared. The only people who could be interested are students and scholars writing on Forster, all the rest may move on to the final version: "A Room with a View". To that small group, however, this little book is a priceless treasure revealing how Forster struggled with his material, how he corrected and rewrote his first novelistic attempt until it became "maybe not the best but the best liked" in his own words.
